It is presently a norm's in some part of our communities within Somolu that once it gets cloudy, their gutters get stuffed with squander of all sorts that will be interjected into the rain which result to carrying them away so they would skip PSP Operators.

The Executive Chairman Hon. Abdul hameed Salawu, implore Somolu residents to  respect the environmental law and be a patriotic citizen at all time in line with the Lagos State Government Babajide. T.H.E.M.E.S. Development Agenda on environmental protection act.

We would never relent on  continuous sensitization of the public on the need to package and dispose their waste properly - "He said"

If waste are not properly managed it will find their way into the gutters which will result in causing unnecessary floods and displace some people and sadly might take the lives of others. The infamous storm drain, popularly has been wreaking havoc for house, roads and residence around this area.

There have been numerous interventions by the government to manage the situation. But how would there be success when the very people feeling the pinch the most are the same ones consciously contributing to the choked gutters.

Continuous support from the Council boss and effective implementation of the PSP operators are nait by some somolites and decided to use the backdoor in evacuation of their waste which affect the atmosphere and the drainage System at large.

PSP operators are here to provide  service, we  therefore enjoins somolties to pay past and current bill on waste collection by the PSP operators”, he added.

Lagos State Government mantains its actualisation of the second pillar 'THEMES' Agenda: Health and Environment. In cleaning primary and secondary drains in Somolu with the effort of the council Boss.

Area covers from Morocco down line Igbobi Army Barracks ,Blue Sport , Down bajulaye road and currently at Apata Road.

It should be on recored that, Insects love clogged gutters and clogged gutters can become a breeding ground as they love the wet conditions of dirty and unkept gutters with for all sorts of things.

Environment wellbeing is a joint task of every citizen, the Mandate of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) on zero waste continues as representatives on inspection applaud Somolu Local Government areas as a cleaner environment because its now better off and free from black spots  when compared to the last time visitation.

Recall ,PSP operations has been in establishment from 2003 during former Governor of Lagos State Asiwaju Bola Hameed Tinubu, Lagos state government, Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has put up zero tolerace on cart pushers and wheel barrow operators also total eradication in line with the actualising its second pillar 'THEMES' Agenda: Health and Environment.

Thanks to The Executive Chairman Hon. Abdul hamed Salawu's Intervention on Environment  who has taken waste management has his high priority.

PSP operators in Somolu has been put up to the task to hold an office within their areas of operations so residents can come down to have their complain and comment when issue occurs in terms of backlogs. 

Non compliance with PSP operators is an offence because the question on hand is that were and how do you evacuate your waste .

Council Manager represented by Mr. Freeman Head HOD Agric Department gives his appealing message by stressing out the fact that we are the residence and our community should be clean and free from dirty. He added by seeking full corporation from the users end by this we should be prompt in payment as at when due.

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) Medical Waste Monitoring Team on an inspection in somolu hospitals and laboratories today Monday 16th August 2021.

The mandate of the team includes the protection  and welfarism of healthcare providers, medical waste handlers and the general public, lastly to advance on  the improvement of waste management services in the healthcare sector.

The monitoring activities carried out in somolu today, revealed that somolu private hospitals don't mix their waste anymore which is not  hazardous or harmful to health waste carrier, Waste workers or even the environment at large.

It should be highlighted at this point that the waste produced in the course of healthcare activities Involve in a higher potential for infection and injury than any other type of waste, inappropriate handling of it may have a serious impact on public health and the environment at large. 

Best management of hospital waste is a crucial aspect of environmental health protection.

Mr Habeeb Yahaya who head the monitoring team to somolu give proper details of how waste should be separated as follows.

Separating the waste by type including sharps, pharmaceutical, chemical, pathological, and non-hazardous.

Black bag: for general non- hazardous waste such as paper, plastics, garbage.

Yellow biohazard bag: for infectious hazardous waste such as syringes, empty IVs, wipes, swabs, gloves.

Red biohazard bag:  for pathological highly infectious waste such as blood product, IV tubing, sample bottles, body parts.

Brown biohazard bag: for expired  harmaceuticals and Radiological bio-hazard bag: for radioactive waste g. X-ray films Safety-box: for used needles.

Residents should observe good environmental practices and should be wary of COVID-19, the full enforcement of operation against health facilities that do not compile on proper way to dispose their medical waste properly will be look into  as we can nit allow somolu resident to be a victim _ Say's by The Executive Chairman Hon. I shockingly seen this a circumstance and I couldn’t halt myself from inquiring the culprit why that obnoxious act was committed and figure the reaction I got: “I don’t see why ought to I pay cash to the waste collector when the rain will carry it absent for me when I put it within the gutter.”
