Somolu LGA boss said that the residents of fadipe, Debari, Igabri and Bajulaye should be stopped with their attitude of  dumping refuses into the canal around them and must protect it from all forms which could perennial on climate change.

The Executive Chairman Hon. Abdulhameed Salawu, who stated this on conclusion of the world ocean day which is celebrated every year, an attempt not to protect it could affect us negatively.

A resident Mr, Odukoya Olanrenwaju who live down at Fadipe street affirm that mothers do sent their male child at the early hour of the day to dump refuse at the canal especially during raining hours. 

Somolu Local Government under the Environmental body of the State Government T.H.E.M.E.S. Development Agenda has implemented several programmes and policies to incite with the federal environmental protection act.

Part of the department activities on field includes  regular cleaning and inspiration, Treatment Plant, Recycling and also continuous sensitisation of the public on the need to package and dispose their waste properly.

According to the Executive Chairman Hon. Abdulhameed Salawu, It has become a way of life for some residence during heavy rainfall to take advantage of disposing their waste inside gutters without considering the drastic effect this act would have on the long run. Same as roadside dumping and canal dumping, all this are common practices which causes blockage and results in flooding during the rainy season.

We encourage our resident to follow the appropriate waste collection service PSP operators assigned to each wards which includes, Proficient waste service, Sanrence kleen and Richbol Environmental Service.

Encourage residence to be an advocate of clean environment, get a recycling bins that are light-weight which makes them easy to use or you improvise by getting a large bucket with cover, make sure you are using them and not just for fashion show.

In your household you could encourage your family members and  roommates to dump their refuse at the appropriate bin during meal. Lastly, It is important to make this a daily habit so that it becomes muscle memory.

Somolu residences should not relent in their payment as at when due as PSP trucks move within somolu.

How LASEMA RESPOND TO FIRE OUT BREAK

Quick response of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), yesterday saved uncountable lives and properties from devastation by the fire outbreak at the popular Ladipo motor spare parts market.

The fire which was reported to have broken out that morning from one of the several shops dealing in vehicle spare parts in Alapeju section of the Ladipo Market and was quickly quelled by LASEMA and it’s collaborators that morning, recorded no injuries, nor fatalities.

Timely response of the Agency to the fire outbreak reported through the Agency’s Toll Free Emergency numbers 112/767 that morning, saved goods worth several hundreds of millions of naira, from destruction at the motor spare parts market, in Mushin Local Government Area, in Lagos.

The incidence which attracted attention of residents also brought traders residing close to the market to their shops in order to either remove their wares or assist in putting out the inferno.

Situation Report emanating from office of the Director General/Chief Executive Officer, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu on the inferno at Ladipo Market, Oshodi has it that;

“Upon arrival at the scene, Agency responders discovered a single storey building used for commercial purposes.(selling of motor parts) was engulfed in flames.

 

“The cause of the inferno has not been identified as at time of filling this report.

 

“Combined team comprising of the Agency’s LASEMA Response Team, (LRT), LASEMA Response Unit Fire, (LRU fire), Lagos State and Federal Fire services, made concerted efforts and subdued the inferno, preventing it from spreading to the surrounding buildings.

“The fire has been curtailed and damping down is over.he concluded.
